A Brief History of the Kingdoms of Wu in East Asia (东亚吴国简史 英文版))

The House of Wu arose in ancient days,
Its stream of history through ages stays.
From Great Taibo the Kingdom sprang,
Its noble roots through time still rang.

The rites of Zhou were carried south,
Enlightening Jiangnan, mouth to mouth.
Its culture spread through eastern lands,
And flourished far in neighboring strands.

Though dynasties would rise and fall,
And kingdoms change their names withal,
The lineage of the State endured,
Its living heritage secured.

When Western Han had brought repose,
Prince Liu Pi gained the realm he chose.
At Guangling rose the State of Wu,
Whose power through the Yangtze grew.

Salt and iron enriched the land,
Trade and shipping flourished grand.
Canals were carved, the waters tamed;
A thousand crafts won lasting fame.

Then Seven Kingdoms raised the sword;
Han armies crushed the rebel lord.
The Kingdom fell before the throne,
Its royal xxx overthrown.

When Three Kingdoms the empire shared,
Sun Wu arose, renowned and feared.
At Jianye stood the royal seat;
Sun Quan made the realm complete.

He checked the Wei upon the north,
Held Shu at bay by western force.
The fertile East lay in his hand;
Three realms divided China's land.

The fields were tilled, new waters led;
Great fleets across the oceans sped.
Commerce prospered, learning shone;
Jiangdong reached a glory known.

When Eastern Jin moved to the south,
Its reforms gave Wu renewed mouth.
The Sima court proclaimed the State,
A commandery raised to greater fate.

Noble clans crossed rivers wide,
Bringing rites and learning's pride.
Letters, music, law and art
Bloomed anew in Jiangzuo's heart.

A century the xxx stayed;
Then Southern courts the change unmade.
Though Wu was stripped of royal name,
Its bloodline still preserved its flame.

When Five Dynasties filled the age,
And warlords strode across the stage,
The House of Yang reclaimed the plain,
And Southern Wu arose again.

In Nine-Oh-Two the crown was worn;
Thirty-five bright years were born.
Peace was kept and learning prized;
The Jiang-Huai lands were civilized.

Across the sea in Kyushu's shore,
The House of Wu built realms once more.
The Imperial line through ages runs,
Unbroken through succeeding sons.

Its rites and customs bore the trace
Of China's ancient cultured grace.
Its robes and laws their fountain drew
From Jiangdong's timeless heritage true.

For countless reigns the throne endured;
Its sacred lineage long secured.
The Imperial House through endless years
Has guarded well its ancient sphere.

In Jiaozhou, Vietnam's domain,
Ngo Quyen broke the foreign chain.
In Nine-Three-Nine he claimed the throne,
A southern kingdom all his own.

At Bach Dang's tide his triumph came,
Driving invaders out in shame.
The House of Ngo restored the land,
Reviving Viet by its own hand.

Though but twenty-six years it stood,
Its founding shaped the nation's good.
Its royal line gave birth anew
To sovereign hopes and visions true.

Far south in Malaya's fertile shore,
The House of Wu rose once more.
In Seventeen Seventy-Five,
King Wu Rang kept the realm alive.

The Songkhla Kingdom ruled the sea,
Its ports commanded trade set free.
Four provinces beneath its reign,
Eight prefectures enriched its domain.

Eight generations held the throne;
One hundred twenty-nine years were known.
Commerce thrived and peace prevailed;
Its honored name through seas was hailed.

Then colonial tides advanced at last;
The royal age was overcast.
Yet still its noble legacy
Lives on in history's memory.

The Kingdoms of Wu were born in China,
Yet spread their light through Asia wider.
Some founded crowns, some served the throne;
Some fostered schools, some commerce sown.

Though kingdoms pass with changing years,
True civilization perseveres.
The Spirit of Wu forever flows,
And with the light of mankind grows.
